Its Not World War 2

Perhaps the silliest thing as of late, is this idea that climate change is the new World War 2. Or better still that this current crop of politicians think they’re fighting “their World War 2.” First off, how absurd. Never mind it completely insults an entire generation of people who had to fight the most important war ever, it tries to equate a hoax with humanity’s greatest struggle. This whole idea that cow farts, and the car you use to go back and forth to work is making the weather change is rather...stupid.  This AOC chick is running around saying 96% of scientists agree climate change is real, its tough enough to get 96% of any group to agree on anything, and even if they did they wouldn’t resort to outlandish political name calling, and brute tactics.

Or if that’s not enough for you, there’s always the whole “immigrants are being held in concentration camps” argument. That’s right illegal immigrants being held in facilities, because, well, they came here illegally, and you can’t just let people in who invade your country. And let’s dispel a couple of wacky ideas right off that bat. Anyone. ANYONE is welcome in America. Just come here legally. You don’t show up on somebody’s doorstep and say, “Take care of me for life.”  Also they’re in detention facilities, not concentration camps. Last I remember, people tend to not head toward countries with concentration camps. The imagery is meant to invoke Hitler’s camps. Where people were gassed, forced to endure cruel conditions. Yeah this isn’t any of that. I’m a Jew, and the whole concentration camp talk is well...insulting.

Relax. This is World War 2, this isn’t even World War Zero. Its made up problems. Can we just stop comparing problems to the Nazis that aren’t problems, or aren’t even the same kind, or same level of problems? Now we’ve got politicians saying everything is hate speech, because they can’t handle criticism, honest debate, or do anything without shouting at the top their lungs. Do we have problems? Sure. Can they be handled without shouting “Nazi” at everything? Sure can. Not everything is hate speech, not everything is Armageddon, and no the world isn’t going to end in 12 years either.

Dogs

I’ve been thinking in the last five minutes that my dogs just want to hang out. I typically sit in the office, or at the bar here at home, and work alone. And then they come in and paw at you till you pick them, or figure you’re not going to pick them up or sit with them.  So I ended up coming over to the couch, and one of them just plopped herself down. She just wants to hang out. She looks like a furry little beached whale just spread out everywhere. I’ve had animals my entire life, and I keep forgetting these little moments don’t last forever. Hang out with your furry pals.

Western

 I’m gonna write a western I decided. It seems to be a dying genre, and I kind of want to contribute to it somehow. It used to be engrained in American entertainment, books, especially television and movies. I think the last western movie was the 3:10 To Yuma remake maybe 10 or 15 years ago, and the last tv series was Deadwood.  We don’t think much of westerns anymore, perhaps its a technology thing, we don’t want to see horses, and gun fights anymore, we want to see sci-if, and thrillers.  I know for myself I could watch or read any genre, if the story is interesting. And that might be the biggest problem, nobody is writing anything good anymore. But I think that’s a problem for every genre, not just westerns.  We need to come with good stories again.

New Year

 I’m doing more these days, or at least trying to.  I’m trying to finish up some classes, and I started some rewrites on a couple of novels.  It’s been fun, because I’m trying to have more fun.  Instead of trying to write the perfect thing, I’m trying to enjoy what I’m doing. There’s too much noise, and there’s something to realizing that while maybe you don’t have a perfect plan, your characters do.  There’s something to sort of “shifting the blame” onto your characters instead of keeping it to yourself. A lot of writing is supposed to be therapeutic, or something for you to wrestle some things out.  You can’t do that if everything is “perfect.”  Sometimes the grit, and the fight, and the imperfections are what make it perfect.
